Abstract

The theory (or method) of similarity and modeling is widely applied in science and in technical applications (Venikov 1976). If a limited amount of experimental data is at disposal and if they are processed in a dimensionfree form (as similarity numbers), then it is possible to transfer the results from one object to the other, where such measurements cannot be carried out. This method is most often applied in hydraulics, heat techniques, etc., which are in connection with the motion of fluids or gases. Using the similarity method, practically usable values were obtained, which could not be got by any other method. The essence of the similarity method is presented in the actual case by a practical exemplar. It is supposed that the reader is somewhat acquainted with this field of science. In the case of geodesists, it is advised to study the basic ideas of the method to avoid difficulties which would then in the opinion of the author help to detect the significance of the present paper.
