Abstract
Filter Bank MultiCarrier (FBMC) modulation is considered as the most favored candidate to replace/coexist with the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) modulation. Numerous alternative transmitters schemes can be found for reducing the complexity of FBMC transmitters, some of these schemes will be studied and the required complexity (real multiplications and additions) for each scheme is compared. This paper mainly focuses on the design structure and complexity calculations of the two different approaches for implementing FBMC transmitters: the Frequency Spreading (FS) and the PolyPhase Network (PPN) based solutions. Based on the derived complexity calculations, the simulation results show that the PPN approach has proven to have a better complexity requirements than the FS implementation. It is also shown that the alternative PPN implementations have a lower complexity requirement than the standard PPN design.
