Abstract
Urban renewal, especially in conservation areas, often raises debate regarding the choice of what might be considered an appropriate architectural style: the aesthetic ideal might be considered "beautification", "symbolic" or "political". The sensitivity of reconstructing office space in the same urban space as the Parliament building resulted in a decision to reconstruct, reflect, the neighbouring buildings' facades behind which a contemporary office building hides. Aside from debating style this project implemented innovative solutions, regarding cladding technology, reduction of weight due to poor foundation conditions and the logistics required to construct a new building without closing down one of Budapest's most important metro stations.
