Abstract

Elizabeth Bibles in the Eszterházy Collection of the Eger Archdiocesan Library The Cyrillic books (about 60 in volume) of the Eszterházy collection of the Eger Archdiocesan Library have been discussed several times, although in primarily bibliographic descriptions, without a detailed examination of the volumes. Continuing this work, this paper focuses specifically on the volumes themselves. Instead of the role they played in Eger, the emphasis is placed on the way these works were created (when, where and why they were printed) and what they contain. In the paper, after reviewing the literature of the Cyrillic research in Eger, two 18 century Cyrillic Bibles (1762; 1766) of the Eszterházy-collection are presented in detail. These Elizabeth Bibles appeared as early as the second half of the 18 century in the territory of the Kingdom of Hungary, especially in the North Eastern region, where a large number of Byzantine-rite (Greek Catholic or Orthodox) Christians lived and used these Bibles. Later, it may be worth collecting additional Elizabeth Bibles available in the region, to gain a more detailed understanding of the presence of the Bible in Hungary. Publikácie vydané v cyrilike v Eszterházyho zbierkach – Alžbetínske biblie v Arcibiskupskej knižnici v Egeri. Publikáciám tlačených cyrilikou (približne 60 zväzkov) predmetnej zbierky sa venovalo už viacero autorov. Ich práce sa zamerali predovšetkým len na bibliografické opisy, no podrobnejšie sa jednotlivým zväzkom venovali iba málo, alebo vôbec. Vychádzajúc z týchto prác sa snažíme zamerať na jednotlivé publikácie ako také. Aj z dôvodu chýbajúcich prameňov sme neskúmali ich možné využívanie v dobovom Jágri, ale sme sa zamerali na samotné diela: ako vznikli (kedy, kde a prečo boli vytlačené) a čo je ich obsahom. Po prehľade odbornej literatúry výskumu spomínaných tunajších tlačí v cyrilike sa budeme v prítomnej štúdií podrobne venovať dvom výtlačkom Biblie pochádzajúcich z 18. storočia (1762, 1766). Ide o tzv. alžbetínske vydania Biblie, ktoré sa na území Uhorského kráľovstva objavili už v druhej polovici 18. storočia. Ide najmä o severovýchodné regióny kráľovstva, kde žilo početné obyvateľstvo byzantského (gréckokatolíckeho či ortodoxného) rítu, ktoré tieto vydania používalo. V budúcnosti by bolo vhodné zozbierať informácie o zachovaných ďalších alžbetínskych Bibliách, čo by prospelo k lepšiemu prehľadu o ich možnom rozšírení na území vtedajšieho Uhorska.
