Abstract
When it comes to environmental issues, especially those related to mining and industrial activities, high school students’ primary source of information is their geography lessons. However, as they are being more and more exposed to external influences in our modern world, they are also getting more prone to obtain information from other sources. The objective of this study is to ascertain to what extent they consider the environmental situation in Hungary important, how informed they are, and how they obtain information in relation to the environmental impact of mining and industrial activities affecting this country. 104 junior students – from both vocational and academic high schools – participated in the pilot survey in the academic year of 2019/2020. The results show that even though they regard the environmental situation of Hungary as an important question, they believe its current state is “just” tolerable. In addition, their primary source of information regarding mining and industrial activities is their teachers.
