Abstract
This paper is focused on one of Taiwan’s important cultural treasures: an extraordinary bronze plaque discovered at the nationally designated archaeological site, Shihsanhang. This large and massively casted strap-end depicting a standing camel and its rider has long been recognized as a non-local item, possibly connected to the Silk Road. However, less is known about its ‘social life’ and artistic analogies. From this perspectiv, I will not only analyze the object and its archaeological background, but also intend to place it into the context of Taiwan’s broader maritime interactions during her prehistoric times.
