Abstract
Based on research in multilingual approaches to teaching, it is hypothesized that the learning process can be made more straightforward and less strenuous. The multilingual approach includes multilingual awareness-raising in order to profit from the synergies and exploit the resources many of the students already have through their prior language knowledge (Jessner et al., 2016). The current paper aims to present the process of validating a motivational questionnaire set in the framework of the Directed Motivational Current (Dörnyei et al., 2014), designed to assess the motivational and attitudinal level of Hungarian 9th grade students during their first year of learning German as L3. The report includes the validation process of a classroom-setting questionnaire as well, intended to keep relevant variables as similar as possible in the intervention and the control groups in order to elicit the effects of multilingual awareness-raising as an intervention method.
