Abstract
Demonstrations play a key role in modern democracies. It is considered as one of the most important instruments in the hands of ordinary people to shape their political and social environment. Protest culture is characterized by the distribution of protest events over, issues and focus of the events (local, national, global) and regions (counties). In our paper we describe and analyse protest events organized in Hungary between 2015 and 2017 The study based on the police archive that contains every registered demonstrations during this period. According to our results, most of the demonstrations are organized to Budapest and protests focusing on local issues, and local conflicts seems to be sporadic in contemporary Hungary. When we turn to the goals of these events we find, that one-fifth of the demonstrations was organized for the sake of minority and marginalized social groups. However protest issues like pro-democracy, environment protection, and policy issues (education and healthcare) are much less prevalent in Hungary.
