Abstract
DRECHSLER PALACE, BUDAPEST, HUNGARY; ARCHITECTS: BÉLA BÁNÁTI and JUDIT ZAJACZ The long-abandoned ballet institute has found a new life as a hotel. Reinforcing the original eclectic character of this building the restoration derives inspiration from a wide range of philosophies and schools of thought. Be this the innovative glazed covering of the central courtyard, chess inspired interior design elements or the geometric reuse of the roof covering to provide additional fenestration to the roof space. In places traditional skills have been reapplied to bring back original surface treatments, painted ceilings for example or the fine metalwork detailing to the roofs and stairs.
