Abstract
The modern Hungarian press and Russian America were born at almost the same time. The official date of the creation of Russian America can be put at 1799, when Paul I published his ukase relating to the formation of the Russian-American Company. The first Hungarian newspapers appeared almost at the end of the 18th century. For this reason it may be interesting to study the question of how Russian America was represented in the Hungarian press of the 19th century. This paper examines the most interesting articles connected with events in Russian America, and presents the errors and mistakes in these newspapers with a view to investigating the causes of these inaccuracies.
