Abstract

A következőkben az első magyar nyelvű katolikus hitvédelmi munka vázlatos bemutatását olvashatjuk. Draskovich György pécsi püspök 1561-ben lefordította az V. században élt Lerinumi Szent Vince apologetikai munkáját, melyben a galliai egyházatya – többek között – arra próbált mindenkor használható kritériumrendszert fölállítani, mikor tekinthető egy hittanítás hitelesnek. A mű mintegy ezer esztendősen is aktuálisnak tűnhetett a horvát származású, a magyar nyelv ápolásának és a katolikus hit védelmezőjének elkötelezett egyházi és politikai személyiség számára: csakúgy, mint Vince idejében, a megjelenő és mindinkább terjedő reformációval szemben sürgetően szükségessé vált olyan, a „végeken” is érthető és használható, gyakorlati módszertan kidolgozása, amellyel a lelkipásztori aprómunkát végző papság is megvédelmezhette a katolikus hitet. Draskovich György elévülhetetlen érdemeket szerzett a magyar nyelv fejlesztésében és terjesztésében, a trienti zsinat határozatainak megvalósításában, valamint a horvát tartományok katolikusként történt megőrzésében. In 1561, the Bishop of Pécs, György Draskovich translated the apologetic work of Vincent of Lérins who lived in the 5th century. In his small book, the Gallican church father tried to establish a set of criteria that can be used at any time to determine whether a doctrine of the faith is authentic. Even after a thousand years, the treatise must have seemed topical to the ecclesiastical and political figure of Croatian origin who was committed to the cultivation of the Hungarian language and the defence of the Catholic faith. Just as in Vincent’s time, in the face of the emergence and spread of Reformation, there was an urgent need to develop a practical methodology that could be understood and used in ‘distant lands’, so that the clergy who were engaged in pastoral work, could defend the Catholic faith. György Draskovich made an unparalleled contribution to the development and dissemination of the Hungarian language, to the implementation of the decisions of the Council of Trent and to the maintaining of the Catholic Faith in the Croatian provinces.
