Abstract
The topic of the paper is the analysis of the evolution of the Székely identity building process in the period between 1867 and 1940. The most cru- cial tools of identity building typical for Eastern Europe are presented: lan- guage, modernization, memory of the past and myths of the past, like those of primordiality, ethnogenesis, kinship, suffering, unfair treatment, heroism, brav- ery. The second part of the paper highlights the process of discursive identity construction in the case of the Székelys with the help of the critical discourse analysis method.
