Abstract
The history of literature has not dealt with the way of life of Pál Ányos’ (1754–1786) family, who was a Pauline friar, a poet and a representative of sentimentalism. The author describes the every day life of a noble family by publishing and analysing the inventory of chattels taken in 1782 after the death of Klára Rőth, the mother of the poet. The family lived in Esztergár (Veszprém County) in a thatched house consisting of seven rooms, a servant's room, a kitchen and a pantry. The social status of the family was correctly expressed by pieces of inlaid furniture, patterned sofas, fine pieces of potteries, silver and golden dinner and coffee-sets. The library was not inventoried, however there are some data proving its existence.
