Abstract
The Austrian Felsőőr (Oberwart) is located 20 kilometers from the Hungarian border, has special ethnic background. The Hungarian majority had lost in proportion over the last 80 years, and now only makes up one sixth of the population, while the 75% are Germans (Austrians). There are two further nationalities, the Croatians and the Roma. Miigration has induced significant changes in the ethnic composition of Felsőőr, earlier the Germans and Hungarians from its surroundings, recently Hungarians from the Carpathian Basin and different ethnic groups from the Balkan moved to the town. The modification of ethnic-demographic character of the settlement can be described as „periods of ethnic transformation”. In the last century, parallel to the changing ethnic composition, the religious structure dinamically transformed, the research of the special relationship between the ethnic and religious divisions is indispensable. The article aims to present the internal ethnic pattern of the settlement and material and symbolic marks of the local Hungarian community
