Abstract

La ville de Szombathely en Hongrie, l’ancienne Sabaria, est surtout connue comme lieu de naissance de saint Martin de Tours. L’action du roman éponyme Sabaria (publié la première fois en anglais en 1963) de Gusztáv Rab se passe dans cette ville dans les années 1950. D’abord, l’auteur de l’article brosse le portrait de cet écrivain dissident hongrois. Ensuite, il situe l’intrigue du roman dans un contexte historique et politique de la Hongrie stalinienne. Enfin, il l’analyse à la lumière de la théorie du chaos d’Edward Lorenz, avec laquelle Rab s’est probablement familiarisé lors de son exil en France. The town of Szombathely in Hungary, the ancient Sabaria, is famous as the birthplace of Saint Martin of Tours. The eponym novel Sabaria (first published in English in 1963) by Gusztáv Rab is set in this town in the 1950s. First, the author of the paper sketches a portait of this Hungarian dissident writer. Next, he puts the novel in a historical and political context of the Stalinist Hungary. Finally, he analyses Sabaria in the light of Edward Lorenz’s chaos theory with which Rab probably familiarized himself during his exile in France.
