Abstract
The article offers high quality translations into English, Russian and Japanese of a famous Hungarian poet, Attila József. However, due to the sudden death of Andrea Papp, the English variants for Születésnapomra (For My Birthday) remain without a proper presentation, yet four full versions are reproduced. The second part of the article focuses on the Russian and Japanese renditions of Tiszta szívvel, Mama and Óda coming to the conclusion that the quality of Russian versions from various authors ranges from hypocrite (lacking key terms) to successful, while Harada Kijomi’s Japanese versions are truthful. The concluding remarks suggest that the beauty of the original poems may be rendered with difficulty in foreign language, often lacking smooth shades of meaning.
