Abstract

The article presents the history of Slavic studies in Budapest, which is more than one hundred and seventy years old. The purpose of the article is to characterize the influence of the Slavic school of Budapest, in particular Professor István Kniezha’s influence on the formation of the worldview and scientific interests of students from Transcarpathia, in particular Emil Baleczky, Kyrylo Halas and Vasyl Oros. They are representatives of the new generation of Transcarpathian intellectuals of the first half of the 1940s, who were students of famous Slavic professors János Melikh, István Kniezha and Lászlо Hadrovich. The specifics of the scientific activity of Professor István Kniezha are pointed out, which partly have influenced the nature of the direction of scientific researches of young Slavists. The fate of Emil Baleczky, Vasyl Oros and Kyrylo Halas was different. But the knowledge gained at the University of Budapest was lovingly passed on to the younger generation of philologists: Baleczky in the Alma Mater, Oros and Halas in the University of Uzhgorod.
