Abstract
The study argues that the adaptation of cyberpunk literary texts creates a troubled case at the crossroads of media conversion and transmedial narratology. Translating a literary text about a storyworld which is, for the most part, technologically defined, into a technologically defined medium runs the risk of missing out on the „cyber” element on the one hand, while possibly downplaying the „punk” in cyberpunk. By analysing Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? as a Cold War novel, the paper argues that its film adaptation in Blade Runner by Ridley Scott signicantly shifts this frame of reference in favour a generic frame in which elements of the novel’s storyworld are put to different use and significantly change the relevance of principles of transmedial representation as offered by transmedial narratology.
