Abstract
A környezet védelme mind a vállalkozások, mind a fogyasztók számára központi jelentőségű kérdéssé vált. Így napjainkban a vállalati kommunikáció egyik fontos eleme, hogy felhívják a figyelmet termékeik, szolgáltatásaik készítésének környezetet óvó, fenntartható aspektusaira. A vállalatok azonban profitorientáltak, céljuk a fogyasztók megnyerése, és nem riadnak vissza attól, hogy zöldbe burkolt, sokszor teljesen üres frázisokat segítségül hívva tegyenek szert több utasra, nagyobb bevételre. | The protection of the environment and the preservation of environmental safety have become unavoidable topics of the 21st century, so they cannot be ignored in tourism either. Natural factors appear as attractions in this sector, so safeguarding them is essential. Furthermore, environmental protection is getting to be more important for consumers, travellers as well. One of the important elements of corporate communication nowadays is to draw attention to the environmentally friendly and sustainable aspects of their products and services. However, companies are profit-oriented, their goal is to win consumers and they are not afraid to get more passengers and more income by using green, often completely empty phrases. The purpose of our article is to present the phenomenon on the field of tourism, to explain its main types and to shed light on the difficulties of the regulatory background of green painting. Furthermore, a short overview of certain environmental protection standards and initiations is also given: some national, EU and international norms are examined. We highlight some standards that, in our opinion, may be of particular importance in relation to tourism. Our selection is quite subjective, the demand for completeness cannot even arise with such a quantity and complexity of legal material. On the field of tourism, the phenomenon of greenwashing can be detected in many cases, however, only some cases end up in legal procedures. Even though the consumer protection regulations prohibit deceptive and misleading commercial practices, this does not deter tourism businesses and players from using them frequently. Sometimes it is hard even to detect its presence, since most of the time, it doesn’t even occur to an average traveller, that these kinds of tricks are used. In addition, the capacity of activists is also limited, since the unfocused amount of advertising materials that we encounter daily, makes it impossible to filter out all false claims. The solution would probably be a legal regulation developed specifically for the sector, an international norm, that clearly defines the conditions under which the use of certain terms and symbols is possible. However, considering that the rules developed in such collaborations are recognized as binding only by the states that ratify; furthermore, it is almost impossible to define these standards precisely, this would not ensure a perfect and invincible situation either. The solution is believed to be a well-developed qualification system and the issuance of a validated certificate.
