Abstract

Az ókori zsidó történelem egyik rejtélye az esszénusok csoportja. Bár több antik szerző is írt róluk a korabeli zsidó csoportok bemutatásakor, a róluk festett kép nem egységes és teljes. A qumráni tekercsek és az azokat rejtő barlangok közelében fekvő telep felfedezése tovább árnyalta mindezt. Jelen tanulmány az írott források és a régészeti feltárások eredményei alapján foglalja össze mindazt, amit az esszénusokról tudhatunk. Miközben igyekszik elhelyezni ezt a közösséget a második Szentély korának eszmerendszerében és társadalmában, felhívja a figyelmet a kutatás nehézségeire és a nyitva hagyott kérdésekre egyaránt. | The Essenes are one of the mysteries of ancient Jewish history. Although several auctors mentioned them while describing the Jewish groups of their era, the image painted by them is not complete and is disputed at several points. The discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls and the excavation of Khirbet Qumran raised more questions about them. The present study summarizes what we know about the Essenes both from the literary sources and the archaeological evidence. While trying to place this community within second Temple Judaism, the article aims to draw attention to the difficulties of the research and some questions still left open.
