Abstract

The University in Kaposvár (formerly Csokonai Vitéz Mihály Pedagogical University, currently MATE Kaposvár Campus) has a long tradition in teacher training in Hungary. Although the name and structure of the institute have changed several times since its birth until today, the training of prospective kindergarten teachers and primary school teachers has remained constant. German teaching and language education for kindergarten teachers and primary school teachers who can carry out German-language activities in kindergartens or teach German in the lower grades of school, has undergone many changes over the decades. These changes were brought about by social demands and state regulations. This study presents the forms, objectives and changes in which German as a foreign language or as a focus in pedagogical trainings for our students has been and is currently being taught over the past few decades. For this purpose, the model curricula for the study subjects in the affected periods are analyzed. Where relevant, the relevant government regulations are also presented.
