Abstract
The aim of the present study is to investigate collocations in foreign language teaching and learning. After describing and defining collocations, collocational competence and explicit and implicit knowledge, the second part of the study intends to analyse collocations in three high school GFL coursebooks and workbooks. The analysis puts emphasis on implicit teaching methods of collocations in the coursebooks/workbooks and tries to answer the question how this method can contribute to the development of collocational competence. The analysis aims to focus on examining grammar exercises, pronunciation exercises, vocabulary lists as well as speaking and writing tasks. After presenting the results of the analysis, the study concludes some methodological ideas, how to present and teach collocations in foreign language learning.
