Abstract
The main goal of this research is to explore the emotional structures of the Hungarian identity. During the research, seventy semi-structured creative interviews were conducted with current political activists. The interview questions were combined with metaphors, and the activists belonged to political parties which were members of the Hungarian Parliament. The main findings of my research support that most of the metaphors are loaded with our pasts. Besides that, psychological approaches were quite common among the respondents: several interviewees ‘diagnosed’ Hungary with mental illnesses. Finally, ‘Hungarian exceptionalism’ has appeared many times in metaphors. This term refers to the notion that the Hungarian people are somehow unique, and some hard-to-grasp quality in them only and exclusively characterizes Hungarians.
