Abstract
Architect: Evan Jahn. The Military Archives Center in Somers, prioritizes flexibility and innovation, offering an immersive museum experience with exhibition spaces and underground archival storage. Inspired by WWII landing craft, its design features a 11-meter structural grid, 120-metre-long trusses, and a cantilevered roof, with a "colour of courage" red steel frame clad in high-performance glass. Emphasizing sustainability, the centre develops less than 4% of its 17.5-hectare site, incorporating a landscaped garden, solar panel array, and rainwater collection, thus integrating architecture and engineering to showcase military history and environmental stewardship.
