Abstract
ARCHITECTS: GÁBOR U. NAGY, GÁBOR ZOLTÁN FÓTH The architectural realization of a magnetic zero-field laboratory (ZBL) in Fertőboz, Hungary, a project initiated in 2014 by Viktor Wesztergom and designed by Gábor U. Nagy to create an electromagnetically "clean" environment for advanced scientific experiments. The core of the facility is a specialized, multi-layered metal-shielded chamber, around which an active magnetic field compensation system of copper coils is integrated. Nagy's architectural concept evolved from an initial abstract notion to create a distinct "spatial cross-axis" timber structure, a geometric framework that poetically aligned with the independently determined optimal Merritt coil arrangementThe resulting instrument-like building is an "anti-building" that seeks to exclude the Earth's magnetic field.
