Abstract

In 1795, during the period of the Hungarian language reform, the so-called Hungarian Grammar of Debrecen was published. While it is a rather conservative description of the Hungarian language, its appendices are more innovative. Of these, Appendix VI, part 7 (pps. 347–350) lists the words that, according to the anonymous authors of the grammar, are of Slavic origin in Hungarian. This list contains a total of 168 items: Hungarian words with their Slavic and Latin equivalents. This paper presents the first results of my longer, ongoing research.
