Abstract

In recognition of recent advances in Hungarian onomatology on 22nd of February 2005 the Committee of the Society of Hungarian Linguistics decided on the foundation of a Section of Onomastics. The president of the new section is István Hoffmann, its secretary is Erzsébet Fercsik. The present Section is not without antecedent: the Society operated an onomastic department earlier. The renewal of the organization is the merit of Professor Mihály Hajdú, leading researcher of Onomastics in ELTE University. According to its future plans the Section organizes two sessions in each semester paying attention to the cooperation of onomastic research centres inside and beyond the borders of Hungary. The Section's spring meetings took place on 18th of March at ELTE University (including a report on the recent achievements of onomastic research at University of Debrecen by István Hoffmann) and from 2nd to 4th of June at Constantine University in Nyitra (a conference on onomastic research in the Uplands, Slovakia).
