Abstract

This research explores the universal protection of human rights with a focus on its application and challenges in Eastern Europe, particularly in Moldova. The universal protection framework, established through international treaties and organisations such as the United Nations, aims to ensure that all individuals, regardless of nationality, enjoy fundamental rights and freedoms. In Eastern Europe, the post-Soviet transition has posed unique challenges to the implementation and enforcement of these rights. Moldova, a country striving towards European integration, faces complex issues such as corruption, political instability, and systemic inefficiencies that hinder the full realisation of human rights protections. This paper examines Moldova’s progress in aligning with international human rights standards, the obstacles it faces, and the role of both national and international actors in promoting and safeguarding these rights. In analysing Moldova’s human rights landscape, this paper will contribute to a broader understanding of the challenges and opportunities in ensuring universal human rights in the context of Eastern Europe’s evolving political and social dynamics.
