Abstract

Zákó András vezérőrnagy, a Magyar Királyi Honvéd Vezérkar főnöke (2. vkf. osztály), valamint az Államvédelmi Központ utolsó parancsnoka. 1949–1968 között a magyar (katonai) emigráció egyik meghatározó szervezetének, a Magyar Harcosok Bajtársi Közösségének (MHBK) vezetőjeként a szovjet és magyar államvédelmi, majd állambiztonsági szervek célkeresztjében állt Kelet és Nyugat hidegháborús konfliktusában. | In this study, I examine the early career of András Zákó, who later became a Major General in the Royal Hungarian Army. Limited information is available regarding how the 18-year-old ensign became involved in the First World War, how he performed his duties at the front as a platoon and company commander, and how he eventually served as an intelligence officer deployed from the war zones to the newly established Kingdom of Romania. This study also investigates the circumstances of his involvement in intelligence networks, the reasons for his capture, the treatment he received from Romanian authorities during his imprisonment, the prospects he faced, his eventual return to Hungary, and the extent to which these early experiences shaped his subsequent military career.
