Abstract
The Transdanubian Reformed Superintendence celebrates the 400th anniversary of its establishment in 2012. The first reformed bishop, preacher István Patai was elected at the synod held in Körmend on 19-20th June 1612. In his study, the author sums up the minutes of the superintendence between the years of 1612 and 1948. He presents how the dates and powers of the synods, the participants, the mechanism of decision making changed during this period. A crucial change took place in the 18-19th centuries: from the 1730s secular officials were also elected, and besides the clergy, the representatives of the believers were involved in the decision making. The rate of lay representatives gradually increased. The church government became professional. The order of the synods was regulated by unwritten law at the beginning. The first detailed written law was prepared in 1894. From 1843 the minutes were pressed and made available for the public. In 1949, in the era of socialism, the superintendence’s press was nationalized, and the public was restricted and controlled.
