Abstract

For children raised in peaceful environments, war seems distant from their everyday experiences. Pieces of Peace provides a new approach to linking the realities of war with their peaceful daily lives. It is a tool for re-narrativization by using photographs of war, extracting elements from the environment,objects and people that both present in wartime and peacetime, and engaging children to use these elements to rebuild narratives of peace to reflect on the differences between them. We have already conducted workshops in Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagano.
