Abstract

A 18–19. század fordulójának időszakából csak kevés magyar katona tollából maradt ránk személyes forrás. A Hadtörténeti Intézet és Múzeum Hadtörténelmi Levéltárában található, jelen munkában közlésre kerülő kézirat így különösen ritka és rendhagyó. A néhány német levéltől eltekintve, magyar nyelven írt kézirat szerzője, ráadásul nem tiszt vagy tábornok, hanem egy egyszerű altiszt, Vántsits János strázsamester volt. Az 1760-ban Kecskeméten született molnárlegény 1778 és 1802 között szolgált a 2. számú huszárezredben. Pályafutását közlegényként kezdte, majd rátermettségének és némi iskolázottságának köszönhetően a strázsamesterségig jutott. Szolgálata különösen eseménydús időszakra esett. Így részt vett a törökök ellen vívott utolsó háborúban, majd a franciák ellen vívott első két koalíciós háborúban is. 18 folio terjedelmű feljegyzéseiben azonban nem csupán egyszerű eseménytörténeti áttekintést ad, hanem egyben a gondolatait, elmélkedéseit is megosztja az olvasóval. Így kiválóan megismerhetjük egy egyszerű sorban élő 18. század végi ember világszemléletét, amely korántsem leegyszerűsítő és sematikus, hanem nagyon is összetett. A forrásközlés ezen részében a strázsamester 1784–1799 közötti időszakra vonatkozó feljegyzései kerülnek közlésre. | Only a few personal accounts written by Hungarian soldiers have come down to us from the period of the turn of the 18th and 19th centuries. The manuscript in the Military History Archives of the Institute and Museum of Military History, which is the subject of this work, is therefore particularly rare and unusual. The author of the manuscript, written in Hungarian apart from a few German letters, was not an officer or a general, but a simple non-commissioned officer, Sergeant János Vántsits. Born in Kecskemét in 1760, and originally a millman, he served in the 2nd Hussar Regiment between 1778 and 1802. He started his career as a private, and then, thanks to his skills and some education, he worked his way up to the position of sergeant. He was serving during a particularly eventful period. For example, he was involved in the last war against the Turks and the first two coalition wars against the French. In his 18 folio notes, however, he not only gives a simple account of events, but also shares his thoughts and reflections with the reader. This gives us an excellent insight into the world view of a man living in a simple row at the end of the 18th century, which is far from simplistic and schematic, but very complex. This part of the source publication presents Sergeant Vántsits’ notes for the period 1784 to 1799.
