Abstract
The introduction to the present issue offers an overview of the list of professors and academics at the Ethnography Institute of the University of Budapest (the predecessor of the present Eötvös Loránd University), founded in 1934. The integration of teaching and research is fundamental to the concept of the university. Following a review of some of the most historically significant academic trends and endeavors, the author outlines the thematic diversity of the essays contained in this volume. At the same time, evidence of interconnection and mutual reflection can be discerned among the divergent present-day academic interests.
