Abstract

Molnár Antalnak a „Megjegyzések a szolfézs- tárgy főiskolai oktatásához” című cikkére válaszolva, K(edélyteli) Z(engő) aláírással jelent meg Kodály Zoltán „Kell- e szolfézs a Zeneművészeti Főiskolán” című vitairata 1965 decemberében a Magyar Zene hasábjain. A rövid írás nem csupán Kodálynak a felsőfokú szolfézstanítás módszertanával és hasznával kapcsolatos elképzeléseit dokumentálja, de olyan információkat is közöl, amelyek a zeneakadémiai szolfézsoktatás történetének kevéssé ismert mozzanataira világítanak rá. A tanulmány azt igyekszik feltárni, miként alakult a „relatív”, illetve az „abszolút” szolmizáció gyakorlatának megítélése az 1920- as évektől Magyarországon, ebben milyen szerepet játszott az első magyarnyelvű szolfézskönyv (Gyakorlókönyv a solfège tanítására, 1921) szerzője, a Zeneakadémia akkori ifjú szolfézstanára, Molnár Antal. | In response to Antal Molnár’s article ‘Comments on the Teaching of Solfège at the Academy’, Zoltán Kodály published a debate paper in the December 1965 issue of Magyar Zene under the pseudonym K(edélyteli) Z(engő) [approx.: Cheerful Resonant] with the title ‘Do We Need Solfège at the Academy of Music?’. This short article documents not only Kodály’s ideas on the methodology and usefulness of teaching solfège at university level, but also provides information that sheds light on hitherto unknown aspects of the history of solfège teaching at the Liszt Academy of Music. In my article, I examine the sources of the professional conflict between Kodály and his former pupil, Molnár. Furthermore, I explore how the evaluation of the practice of ‘relative’ and ‘absolute’ solmization evolved in Hungary from the 1920s onward, and the role Molnár played in it. He claimed to be the author of the first Hungarian- language solfège textbook (Gyakorlókönyv a solfège tanítására, 1921). In addition to the two printed debate papers, I attempt to reconstruct Molnár’s role in the history of solfège teaching, based on documents preserved in his estate: his letters, notes, and writings kept at the Archives for 20th–21st- Century Hungarian Music (Institute for Musicology ELTE RCH).
