Abstract
Thisstudy examinesthe methodological challenges associated with interpreting early Old Hungarian texts, emphasizing the importance of cautious analysis. It critiques recent interpretative attempts that lack sufficient justification and overlook critical paleographic and grammatical factors. The analysis focuses on problematic issues regarding two early Old Hungarian texts: the readings of terms in the Königsberg Fragment and controversial interpretationsin the Old Hungarian Lament of Mary. These cases demonstrate the risks of relying on speculative readings without robust evidence or analogical support. By reevaluating these examples with established linguistic principles, the paper highlights the necessity of rigor and careful scrutiny in reconstructing historical texts.
