Abstract

Tamás Gábor Csapó, as one of the founding members of MTA–ELTE ”Lendület” Lingu-al Articulation Research Group, introduced the technique of ultrasound tongue imag-ing (UTI) into articulatory research in Hungary. He mastered this technique duringa Fulbright Scholarship at Indiana University, Bloomington. He did pioneering workin the development of UTI data analysis methodology, silent speech interfaces, andother digital applications of UTI. His achievements are acknowledged and his work isreferenced worldwide. In the present paper, after a brief outline of the technique of2D ultrasound tongue imaging, we review the research, results, and application areasin which Tamás Gábor Csapó (with his co-authors) made his marks within the fieldsof articulatory research and articulatory-to-acoustic conversion.
