Abstract
Over the past decades, Hungarian American diaspora organizations have played a significant role in advocating for the human rights of ethnic Hungarian minorities outside Hungary’s borders. While these organizations have engaged in a broad range of issues—including NATO enlargement and the U.S. Visa Waiver Program—this study focuses specifically on their sustained efforts to protect minority rights. The Hungarian Human Rights Foundation (HHRF) has been the primary organization leading these initiatives. By situating Hungarian diaspora advocacy within the broader framework of ethnic interest representation in the United States, this study explores contemporary challenges, such as the decreasing prioritization of minority rights in U.S. foreign policy and the shifting geopolitical landscape in Central and Eastern Europe. Drawing on insights from academic literature, the study proposes strategic responses to ensure the continued effectiveness of these advocacy efforts.
