Abstract
The article examines the case of a village located on the eastern edge of Transylvania, deep within the pine forests of the Eastern Carpathians. Economic booms and setbacks followed each other in the history of the settlement (initially a logging camp founded in the late 19th century). Despite these challenges and a continuous decline in population, the village persists and even attracts new settlers. This paper explores the contradictions and uncertainties of mountain life in the 21st century and it aims at applying a social-ecological approach by investigating the interplay between natural resources and human practices and decisions.
