Abstract
The present study deals with the history of the elimination of the Gypsy settlements in the 3rd district of Budapest during the state-socialist period. After a brief summary of the Gypsy settlement eliminations throughout the country in the 1970s and 1980s, the paper focuses on the settlements in the 3rd district and the former Gypsy class of the Bécsi út Primary School, drawing on source material from the Budapest Municipal Archives, the press of the time and a few interviews.
