Abstract

A XVIII. században, Bél Mátyás után megélénkülő rovásíráskutatásban a jezsuita rend feltűnően kis szerepet vállalt. Kunics Ferenc Dacica Siculia brevi compendio exhibita c. művének adatai alig értelmezhetők. Timon Sámuel 1734-ben semmi konkrét adatot nem ismert, ezért szkeptikusan állt a kérdéshez. Gyakorlati rovásfelhasználásra példa Zakarjás János atya, akiről nem tudjuk, honnan szerezte ismereteit. Nem tisztán Bél Mátyás ábécéjén alapuló írástudását talán részben rendtársa, Vargyas István közvetítette, vagy ketten együtt tanulták ismeretlen személytől. Végül Pray György a piarista Desericzky Ince kutatásait bírálva tekinti át a rovásírásról való ismereteket, részben indokolatlan szkepszissel. A jezsuiták főleg a két rend vetélkedése és a kevés és ellentmondó tényanyag miatt nem koncentráltak arra, hogy történettudományos munkájuk e kérdésben is előrelépjen. | The Jesuit order did not play a prominent role in the 18th-century-researches on the runiform script, which became popular after the publication of Matthias Bél’s monograph. The data written in Ferenc Kunics’ Dacica Siculia brevi compendio exhibita are difficult to interpret. Sámuel Timon was not aware of existing data in 1734, therefore he was sceptical. An example of actual runiform writing practice is the oeuvre of János Zakarjás, but we don’t know where he acquired his knowledge. His practice was not based exclusively on the alphabet of Matthias Bél; maybe he learned it from István Vargyas, his fellow Jesuit, or they learned it together, from an unknown person. György Pray surveyed the available information about the runiform script, when he criticised the researches of the Piarist Ince Desericzky, but Pray was extremely sceptical. The Jesuits were not motivated to promote further researches because of the rivalry of the two orders and because the available data were scarce and contradictory.
