Abstract

Franciaország mindig is vonzó célpont volt azok számára, akik valamilyen kényszerű oknál fogva – legyen az gazdasági vagy éppen politikai – kénytelenek voltak elhagyni Magyarországot, hogy új életet kezdjenek. A 18. századtól folyamatosan éltek magyarok Franciaországban – az átlagemberektől az egészen kimagasló, illusztris személyekig. Például érdemes megemlíteni gróf Károlyi Mihályt, Magyarország egykori miniszterelnökét. Az elmúlt évszázad során, sőt egészen napjainkig, a francia földön letelepedett magyarok száma hol növekvő, hol csökkenő tendenciát mutatott. A hivatalos adatok szerint jelenleg 17.100 magyar él és dolgozik Franciaországban, de a valóságban a számuk sokkal magasabb is lehet. | France has consistently served an attractive destination for individuals compelled to leave Hungary due to various economic and political circumstances in order to commence a new life. Since the 18th century, several thousands of Hungarians have resided in France for a shorter or a longer period of time (or for the rest of their life) encompassing a wide range of individuals from everyday citizens to the most prominent and illustrious figures, such as Count Mihály Károlyi, a former Prime Minister of Hungary. Over the past century up to the present day, the number of Hungarians living in this Western European country has been on the rise and on the decline. Currently, official statistics indicate that approximately 17,100 Hungarians are living and working in France; however, the actual number may be significantly higher.
