Abstract

Tanulmányomban azt vizsgálom, hogy az Alföld középső részén, a Homokhátságon élő embereknek évszázadok óta milyen jellegű kihívásokkal kellett szembenézniük, mind a környezet, mind a politikai, gazdasági, társadalmi rendszerek jelentős változásai miatt. Tanulmányomban először ezeket a múltbéli kihívásokat és rá adott válaszokat veszem sorra, majd áttekintem, hogy a tanyák és az ott élő emberek ebben a folyamatban milyen szerepet játszottak, hogyan birkóztak meg a gyakran változó körülményekkel. Ezt követően empirikus kutatási eredmények alapján megvizsgálom, hogy a rendszerváltás utáni kihívások – úgymint a magyar mezőgazdaság integrálása a globális és európai uniós piacokba, valamint az utóbbi évtizedben egyre markánsabban érzékelhető klímaváltozás – milyen hatásokat gyakoroltak a tanyán élőkre, mennyire tudtak ezekre sikeres válaszokat adni. I In my study, I examine what kind of challenges the people living in the central part of the Great Plain, have had to face for centuries, due to significant changes both concerning the environment and also the political, economic, and social systems. In my study, I will first take a look at these past challenges and the responses to them, and then I will review what role the farms and the people living there played in this process, how they coped with the constantly changing circumstances. After that, based on empirical research results, I will examine what effects the challenges after the change of regime – such as the integration of Hungarian agriculture into the global and European Union markets, as well as the climate change that has become more and more noticeable in the last decade – had on the people living on farms, and how successfully they were able to respond to them.
