Abstract

Egy református lelkipásztori élettörténet kutatása sokféle család- és származástörténeti eredményre vezethet. Előfordul, hogy a vizsgálódás alanya ároni famíliába születik és leszármazottai is egyházi pályán haladnak tovább, első generációs lelkészként maga is alapíthat ilyen dinasztiát, de az is gyakran megesik, hogy prédikátori karrierje az utolsó vagy éppen egyedülálló marad a családban. Az 1798–1829 között Nagyzerinden, Arad vármegyében szolgáló Molnár János egyike azon példáknak, akinek hétköznapi neve rendkívüli kutatási nehézségek elé állít, pusztán őseinek múltja sem emeli ki hasonnevű szolgatársai közül, más illusztris családtagok – akár testvérek, vők, leányági unokák – révén személye mégis érdemes lehet arra, hogy nem csak lelkészként, hanem magánemberként, mint e családtagok sorsának részbeni alakítója is komolyabb figyelmet kapjon. Jelen tanulmány Molnár János lelkipásztor származása és közelebbi utódai mellett nővére, Molnár Borbála életrajzát, családi viszonyait is meg kívánja világítani, annál is inkább, mert az elmúlt kétszász évben számos nem kellően megalapozott vagy utólag megdőlt tényállítás kapcsolódott a sátoraljaújhelyiként emlegetett költőnő személyéhez, eredetéhez és egyes életeseményeihez is. Írásom a szekunder forrásirodalom leporolása mellett, a primer kútfőkhöz való minél teljesebb visszatérésre törekszik, hangsúlyozva a kritikus megközelítés fontosságát, a ténymegállapítás és hipotézis közti különbséget. | Research into the life of a Reformed pastor can yield a wide range of genealogical and familial insights. In some cases, the subject is born into an Aaronic lineage and goes on to establish a clerical line; in others, the ministerial career remains singular or ends with that generation. János Molnár, who served in Nagyzerind, Arad County, from 1798 to 1829, is one such example. His common name presents considerable challenges for researchers, and his ancestry alone does not distinguish him from other pastors with similar names. Nevertheless, through connections to notable family members—siblings, sons-in-law, or descendants through the female line—his life warrants closer attention, not only as a pastor, but also as a private individual who helped shape the destinies of his relatives. This study explores not only the origins and immediate descendants of Pastor János Molnár, but also the biography and family relationships of his sister, the poet Borbála Molnár. This is especially important given that, over the past two centuries, numerous unsubstantiated or later refuted claims have emerged regarding the poet— often associated with Sátoraljaújhely—her origins, and key events in her life. Besides revisiting the secondary literature, this paper seeks to return to primary sources as fully as possible, emphasizing the importance of a critical approach and the distinction between fact and hypothesis.
