Abstract
Future progress in our life is unthinkable without semiconductor technology. Below is a brief sur-vey of the development facilitated by the integration of silicon devices since the discovery of the transistor 75 years ago, hinting also at the limitless future opportunities. In all sectors of everyday life integrated circuits are fundamental components in our instruments, their role in the industrial food-chain and their accessibility is of global-political importance, as witnessed today.
