Abstract

The development of science and (bio)technology may change the concept of the human as well as the values of humanism to the extent that possibly an upgraded human or one combined with technology can hardly be called Homo sapiens anymore. This raises the question of what kind of society we can live in if the anthropocentric worldview, the pillar of humanism, is overturned and the centre of the most protected human autonomy itself is also questioned. We also will examine why the catalogue of human rights might eradicated if the right to abortion and trans rights were to be maintained and the autonomy of human consciousness were to be eroded, and what the solution might be to respect the life and dignity of all human beings and to address the challenges posed by biotechnology. Finally, we will justify what and why Francis Fukuyama might be right and why there is a need to return to the fundamental values of humanism, which could be called orthodox humanism in a technologically driven age of humanism, which cannot be posthuman.
