Abstract

This handbook offers a practical guide to the conscious, effective and responsible use of digital technologies in higher education. Structured around the DigCompEdu framework, it connects key areas of academic practice - from professional engagement and digital resources to teaching, assessment, learner support and students’ digital competence - with concrete methodological ideas, examples and opportunities for self-reflection. A distinctive feature of this edition is its systematic integration of artificial intelligence and AI literacy, with particular attention to professional development, research, personalised learning, assessment and ethical considerations. Rather than treating technology as an end in itself, the volume encourages educators to select and use digital and AI tools purposefully, critically and in line with their pedagogical goals.
