Abstract

Az Osztrák–Magyar Monarchia SM U-27 tengeralattjárója Josef Holub sorhajóhadnagy parancsnoksága alatt sikeres rajtaütést hajtott végre az Égei-tengeren 1918. április 22. és május 15. között. Hazafelé, 1918. május 14-én, 11:30- kor az Otrantói-szorosban megtorpedózta a brit HMS Phoenix rombolót, amely végül elsüllyedt. Az ügy kapcsán 1918. május 23–24-én az HMS Blenheim cirkáló fedélzetén több tisztet is kihallgatott a hadbíróság. A brit Nemzeti Levéltárban található dokumentumok lehetővé tették az események pontos rekonstruálását. Josef Holub tökéletes támadást hajtott végre tengeralattjárójával, amely sértetlenül hagyta el a helyszínt. Ez a támadás bebizonyította, hogy az Otrantói szorosban az állandó blokád hatástalan volt, és időnként a blokádot tartó hajók nagyobb veszélyben voltak, mint a megsemmisíteni próbált tengeralattjárók. | The Austro-Hungarian submarine SM U-27 completed a successful raid on the Aegean Sea between 22 April and 15 May 1918, under the command of shipof- the-line lieutenant Josef Holub. On her way back to home, on 14 May 1918, at 11:30 AM in the Strait of Otranto, he successfully torpedoed the British destroyer HMS Phoenix, which was eventually foundered. On 23-24 May 1918, on the deck of the cruiser HMS Blenheim, several officers were interrogated by a court martial. The documents held in The National Archives made it possible to reconstruct the events accurately. Josef Holub conducted a perfect attack with his submarine and she was able to leave the scene unscathed. This sucessful attack proves that the Entente blockade in the Strait of Otranto was ineffective and occasionally the blockading ships were in greater danger than the submarines they tried to destroy.
