Abstract

Terminographic methods and devices in the education of terminologists in Hungary The aim of this paper is to present the MA Programme in Terminology at the Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary; and, more specifically, to discuss the emphasis placed on up-to-date terminographic methods and devices in the programme. The establishment and launch of the Terminology MA started several years ago with the aim of introducing the training of terminologists at university level in Hungary. The MA Programme in Terminology is a two-year university training course at the Faculty of Humanities. The programme accepts the application of students holding a BA in Humanities (especially in Hungarian and Foreign Language Studies) as well as students holding a BSc (or MSc) in other disciplines (i.e. engineers, economists, lawyers, doctors, etc. are also welcome). Terminology is not simply a discipline for its own sake. Its practical benefits could be observed in the successful operation of a business. A terminologist, always focusing on systematic approaches, plays a vital role not only at a translation agency, but also in any multilingual, multinational company. In the education of terminologists, when planning the curriculum, apart from discussing the basic principles and methods in lexicography and terminology to be taught, it is also important to determine which state-of-the-art devices and applications are introduced to students.
