Abstract

The settlement and activity in Western Transdanubia of Anabaptists was first studied by Béla Iványi, law and cultural historian, then by Imre Katona, art historian. Building on the data they found in archives, this article presents the activity of the Habans in Vas County in the 16^th to 17^th centuries. A few details from inventories show what a rich store of their ceramics was to be found in aristocratic and noble castles and well-to-do town houses in the county. There is no longer any trace of that material. In all there are 17 pieces of Haban ceramics in the collections of Vas County museums. The 12 objects with dates and guild symbols presented here were made between 1676 and 1754. Presumably they are not the work of local Haban potters because their communities in Vas County ceased to exist after 1662. Only two objects have a reliably known provenance (Fig. 8 and 9); they can be attributed to the Odler workshop in Dejthe (Dechtice, Slovakia).
