Abstract

A cikk a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Széchenyi István téri székháza ünnepélyes átadásának másfélszáz éves évfordulója alkalmából bemutatja a várostörténeti szempontból is kiemelkedő jelentőségű középület építése során alkalmazott kőanyagokat. Levéltári források és kordokumentumok alapján ismerteti az építkezés legfontosabb eseményeit, az építő- és díszítőkövek beszerzésének, felhasználásának körülményeit, az ehhez kapcsolódó költségeket, majd ezt követően a kőzetek típusait, származási helyét veszi sorra. A székház kőzeteinek kiválasztása a neoreneszánsz ízlés- és formavilágát tükrözi: az épület homlokzata uralkodóan Budapest környéki porózus mészkövekből, forrásvízi mészkőből, lábazata pedig gerecsei vörös mészkőből áll, belsejében a Habsburg Monarchia területéről származó csiszolható mészkövek és márványok láthatók. | The palace of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences has an outstanding significance not just from an architectural point of view, but from the historic perspective of the capital as well. On the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the inauguration of the building the paper provides an overview of the building and the ornamental stones of the palace. The conditions of the construction, the quantities of applied stones, the lithological description and the provenance are discussed in details using historical sources such as archives, inventories and hand written documents. The selection of stone types and their utilization reflects the Neo-Renaissance style and atmosphere: the facade of the building is predominantly covered by porous limestone facing stones with smaller amount travertine from the broader region of Budapest, as well as red limestone from Gerecse. The interior part is characterized by polished limestone slabs and marble originating from different parts of the Habsburg Monarchy.
